Broward County Animal Care Updates Pet Tag Pricing to Support Responsible Pet Ownership
New Fee Structure Encourages Microchipping, Simplifies Compliance, and Helps Residents Avoid Fines Effective May 1st.
BROWARD COUNTY, FL - (April 25, 2025) - Broward County Animal Care, the County's official pet adoption and animal welfare agency, has updated the way it charges for required pet registration tags, as part of its ongoing commitment to make pet ownership more responsible and accessible. The County's Tags for Life program - already in place - remains one of the most innovative efforts in Florida to keep pets protected and identified for life. Effective May 1, annual renewal fees are now $25 for microchipped dogs and cats and $55 for non-microchipped pets. More details are available at PetTags.Broward.org.
"Animal Care has simplified how we charge for pet tags while continuing to prioritize safety, convenience, and responsible ownership," said Doug Brightwell, Director of Broward County Animal Care. "This change supports our mission to protect pets while making it easier for owners to stay in compliance and avoid fines."
This updated pricing structure incentivizes microchipping, which increases the chances of lost pets being returned home. It also streamlines compliance with County law, which requires all dogs and cats to be registered and up to date on their rabies vaccinations.
The Tags for Life program, which launched in early 2025, allows pet owners to receive a single, durable tag for the lifetime of their pet. Instead of replacing tags each year, owners simply renew their pet's registration annually - no new tag required.
Effective May 1, the new Annual Registration Fees Schedule is as follows:
- Microchipped Dogs and Cats: $25
- Non-Microchipped Dogs and Cats: $55
