Pet Emergency Center

Pet Emergency Center has provided emergency veterinary care to Fort Lauderdale and the surrounding Broward County community since 1981. As the first veterinary emergency practice established in Broward County, the hospital has decades of experience helping pets when their regular veterinarian is unavailable.

The experienced emergency veterinarians and veterinary technicians treat minor emergencies, serious illnesses, traumatic injuries, and conditions requiring critical care or surgery. Available services include diagnostic testing, hospitalization, IV fluid therapy, oxygen therapy, pain management, blood typing and transfusions, wound treatment, and emergency surgical care.

Pet Emergency Center cares for dogs and cats as well as many exotic and unusual pets. The team has experience treating birds, rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, reptiles, turtles, sugar gliders, small farm animals, and other species. Pet owners with an exotic or uncommon animal are encouraged to call the hospital to confirm that the team can provide the care their pet requires.

Commonly treated emergencies include vomiting, diarrhea, toxin exposure, Bufo toad poisoning, bite wounds, allergic reactions, difficulty breathing, urinary obstruction, seizures, trauma, lacerations, eye injuries, limping, and sudden changes in behavior. The emergency team works with each pet owner to explain the available diagnostic and treatment options. When follow-up care is needed, the hospital can coordinate with the pet's regular veterinarian and share relevant medical records.

Veterinary emergency telemedicine appointments are also available throughout Florida. These virtual consultations can help pet owners assess symptoms, receive initial guidance, and determine whether immediate in-person treatment is necessary. Telemedicine does not replace hands-on emergency treatment for pets experiencing severe or life-threatening symptoms.

Pet Emergency Center is open every weeknight from 5 p.m. until 8 a.m. It remains open 24 hours a day on weekends and holidays.
